Positive Thinking

Positive Thinking

Deep down we all know that positive thinking results in a positive and more fulfilling life. Positive people are happy people. They manage stress better, they have better relationships, they are healthier, and they are happier and often more successful in their careers. This isn’t to say that the only way you’re going to be healthy, happy, and wise is to put a smile on your face.
Every positive person has bad days.  Every positive person has struggles and days where it is difficult to smile and look on the bright side.  The difference between the eternal optimist and the rest of us is that they have developed the ability to refocus their thoughts.  They have practiced the art of positive thinking.

1. The power of awareness
The first key to making changes is to become aware. As you create your inner power statement, you will be literally forming a new positive thought into both your conscious and eventually into your subconscious mind where you will no longer have to think about the thought.

2. Speak to your brain in language it understands.  Create a new statement written in the positive.  Ex)  I am brilliant (positive tense) versus I am not stupid. (negative tense)

3. Create your statement in the present tense.  If you create your statement in the future tense, your brain will put your thought into the “I will get to this later".

4. Make it a powerful statement.  Create a positive statement as powerful as your negative statement. A common example is people calling themselves “fat”. People often have the definition of fat connected to words like lazy, disgusting, unattractive, and unlovable. This makes the word “fat” an extremely emotionally charged and well connected to many pathways. This means it will be more difficult to change and will need a statement powerful enough to combat all these other pathways. It is important to dig deep and understand what is connected to your statements.  As you understand the deep force attached to the statement, you can then manage the issue at the root and be more successful at clearing out the negative.  A powerful statement to combat fat may be “I am a healthy energetic and lovable and worthy of all that my heart desires.

5. Create a clear definition of what you statement means. Create a specific definition that will allow your brain to know what to look for in your environment to make your positive statement true.  For example, if I were to say that I am brilliant, I need to write out my definition of brilliance.  My definition of brilliance is that everyone has inner strengths and gifts inside them to offer to the world.  One of the ways that I am brilliant is by being a good listener. Being a good listener is important as I am able to  listen to someone’s heart and respect them where they are on their journey.  Having someone to listen to you supports another’s personal growth and lets them feel as if they are not alone.

6. Set an intention and look for evidence.  When you decide 100% that you are going to make a change, your brain will find new possibilities and opportunities to ensure your achieve your goal.  Henry Ford said it best when he said, “If you think you can or you think you can’t you are right”.  Once you have set the intention, start looking for evidence to prove yourself right.  Once I intended to believe that I am brilliant for being a good listener, I would listen for anyone who thanked me for being a good listener as evidence.  I would then keep a journal of the ways that I am brilliant.

7.  Get a live your power buddy - Studies show that having someone support you while you are making a change can increase your success .

8. Repeat and combine your affirmations.  By repeating an affirmation over and over again and combining it with action, it becomes embedded in the subconscious mind, and eventually becomes your reality.

9. People that laugh live longer.  Laugh every day.  What makes you laugh?  Do you have a favorite television show?  Cartoon?  Pets and children can be extremely funny, actually many adults can be too without intending to.  People watch and look for the humor in life. When you do this too, it can save your life.

10. Listen to positive music
The effect of classical music has been studied on infants.  Scientists theorize that the music triggers brain development.  Music has a profound power on our brain, emotions, attitude and outlook.  Music can trigger a memory.  You favorite song can place a smile on your face and a song that you dislike can cause you to groan and cover your ears. Music is powerful.
