Happy Father’s Day
Happy Father’s Day
Sunday, June 15, 2014 Sonora Smart-Dodd is the “mother” of Father's Day. In 1909, as she listened to a sermon about Mother's Day, she was inspired to begin a campaign to create a celebration that would recognize and honor the work done by her father and all fathers across the U.S.
Since 1910, there have been several attempts to establish Father's Day as a national holiday. Finally, in 1966, President Lyndon B. Johnson proclaimed Father's Day as a holiday. That made it official. In 1972, President Richard Nixon officially declared the third Sunday in June as Father's Day in the United States. That created a permanent home on the calendar.
Australia and New Zealand celebrate Father’s Day on the first Sunday in September and in Scandinavia, it's the second Sunday in November.
Father's Day is not just a day to honor your father. It's a day to thank any male caregiver in your life. It's a chance for you to say thank you to your stepfather, your uncle, your grandfather, and your dad for all they do for you. You do all kinds of stuff for us all year, but today we do stuff for you! Your helping us grow into well rounded adults and having fun with us at the same time!
Happy Fathers Day
