1. Monkeys are part of the primate family.  Humans are too.

2. The origin of the word "monkey" is unclear. It could come from Moneke , the name of the son of Martin the Ape in a medieval animal story. It appears also to be related to manikin, from the Dutch manneken  ("little man").

3.Nonhuman primate means any nonhuman member of the highest order of mammals including prosimians, monkeys, and apes.  Example species of prosimians are Lemurs, Bushbabies, etc.  Example species of monkeys are the Marmosets and Tamarines, Squirrel monkeys, Macaques, Baboons, Mangabeys, etc.  Species of apes include Gibbons, Chimpanzees, Orangutan, and Gorillas.

4. Monkeys are generally considered to  be intelligent.

5. The first monkey in space was Albert II who flew in the US-launched V-2 rocket on June 14, 1949. Monkeys are also used in various experiments as they are intelligent enough & pick up skills very fast.

6. Monkeys are worshipped in India; they are believed to represent the Lord Hanuman.

7. All monkeys like to be clean so they have a barber monkey clean out their fur. The barber monkey's payment is the bugs in its customer's hair.  Monkeys express affection and make peace with others by grooming each other.Chimpanzees, gorillas, and orangutans all catch cold, but curiously monkeys do not.

8. In Africa, South Asia-Monkeys are trained to do certain gymnastic activities ,they are great entertainers after training.

9. A group of monkeys is called a "troop."A group of monkeys may be referred to as a mission or a tribe.

10. Did you know that when monkeys yawn it's sometimes because they are tired, and sometimes because they are mad?

11. Monkeys peel their bananas and do not eat the skins.

12. Monkey brains are eaten as a delicacy in parts of South Asia, Africa and China.

13. Mother Monkey carries its kid ,stuck to its body , till the time it is able walk/take care of himself.

14. Monkeys can weigh up to 45 kgs.  Their tails can be as long as 3 feet. They have opposable thumbs.

15. The pygmy marmoset, whose body is only 10 centimetres long, lives in the forests along the Amazon river, in South America. It is the smallest monkey in the world.

16. Monkeys are great swimmers; however, they prefer not to be in the water.

17. The English Language Institute have campaigned for years to have the plural of monkey to be changed accordingly to monkeies - changing the "y" to an "i" and adding "es".

18. Black howler monkeys and Yucatan spider monkeys are some of the largest monkeys in the Americas. 

19. Both live mostly in trees and rarely come down onto the ground.  They have special tails that act as an extra, 5th limb so they can grasp and hold onto things.  On the tip of their tails is a pad, which is almost as sensitive as a human fingertip.  It even has its own unique finger print. 

20. Black Howler Monkeys and Yucatan Spider Monkeys are endangered species.  

21. Because monkeys are so similar to people, some people think that they are cute pets.  But they make very bad pets for just that reason.  Because we are so  similar it is easy to catch diseases and parasites from monkeys, and we can also give them our own diseases. 

22. When monkeys are about 2 years old they go through puberty, just like teenage humans.  They can become aggressive and dangerous.  Like humans, because they are so smart, they get bored very easily and are extremely destructive. A 2-year old ‘pet’ monkey is very dangerous to have around.
