1. The king cobra is a kind of a snake which means it is a reptile. Reptiles are cold blooded. They’re covered in scales they breathe air through their lungs and lay eggs.

2. The king cobra has round eyes a long forked tongue , two short fangs , a small tail and a flat head with the hood at the back of it’s head.

3. The king cobra is a snake which means it has no legs so it uses its strong muscles to slither to move.

4. It stalks its prey by hiding, then slithering up really fast. It catches its prey, then eats it. They can go without food for months.

5. King cobras are the largest venomous snake in the world. They can grow up to 18 feet long in the wild. A king cobra also has the ability to deliver a dry bite which is when the snake injects no venom into its target. 

6. When it feels threatened it opens its hood (expands the skin on its neck) to warn predators. it is also the only species  of snake able to spit poison   

7. The folded skin on it’s neck called a hood, but when it expands it, the King Cobra may be frightening!

8. The king cobras diet consists mostly of smaller snakes, rodents, lizards and birds. One of the hunting tactics of the cobra is to spit poison to disable (blind) its prey. After it bites and injects venom into its prey and eats it. 

9. Sometimes the snake bites its prey then lets go and waits for the poison to kill it (except for birds when the bird flies of it could get to far from the snake).

13. There are many special things about the King Cobra. A few of them are the black and yellow pattern of the scales on their back and that the female is longer than the male. Most King Cobras grow to be eight-teen feet in length! 

14. They have two, really sharp fangs that can fold up into the snake’s gums and they contain enough poison to kill an elephant (even though they don’t eat elephant)! 

15. They are the world’s longest venomous snake. Their hiss sounds like a growling dog. A single bite has enough toxins to kill 20 people.

16. The King Cobra has a hood on it’s neck with eyespots on it to confuse the predator. 

17. The female creates a sort of duplex for herself and the eggs. The male just sleeps anywhere really. Tropical rain forests don’t change very much so the animals don’t have to worry about weather. The king cobra is the only snake to make a nest unlike other snakes. When the king cobra is born it can catch prey the size of a rat.

18. Two months after the egg is laid, it hatches into a baby snake. After the egg hatches the mother leaves and the baby snakes have to fend for them selves. 

19. Did you know that snake jaws are not together that means that snakes jaws are not hooked up at the back of their mouth and that makes it possible to eat big meals  bigger than their heads.

20. Snakes have tubes at the bottom of their mouths the tube comes out to get air when the mouth is full.

21. Did you know that only poisonous snakes have fangs and the non-poisonous snakes don’t have fangs but they have teeth.

22. King cobras are also excellent climbers and will pursue prey into the trees.

24. King cobra snakes are deaf to ambient noises.

25. King Cobras use vibrations in the ground as one of their main senses.

26. The king cobra will eat its own kind if it is hungry.  That means it will even eat a baby king cobra.
