1. Flying Fish is a type of fish that throws itself from the water with the motion of its strong tail. In the air, it glides by spreading its large fins, witch act like wings. Some people think that flying fish fly, but get real instead of flying they glide. 

2. Any one to taste this tasty fish would be lucky because they are very uncommon.

3. When the flying fish is fully grown it can measure up to 7 to 12 inches. Their pectoral fins are as big as the size of the wings of birds. There are over 40 known species.

4. Flying Fish are vertebrates.

5. They belong to the fish group.

6. You don’t see these uncommon fish anymore because they are becoming extint.

7. Flying Fish live in salt water.

8. They live out deep in the ocean.

15. In May 2008, a japanese tv crew filmed a flying fish off the coast of Yakusima Island, Japan. The creature spent 45 seconds in the surface of the water with its caudal fin.

16. The most important physical adaptation of the flying fish is its large pectoral fins. It can swim really fast and then jump out of the water. The flying fish extends its large fins and they act like wings to escape from predators.

17. The flying fish has more adaptations that help it fly. First, its gills can breath in air.  It allows it to survive when it's flying.  Also, they have a torpedo shaped body and a really strong tail so it can reach enough velocity to to fly.

18. Flying fish are animals that can be found in the subtropical (medium temperatures waters) and tropical waters of the ocean.  The subtropical waters are found in the Atlantic, Pacific, and Indian Oceans. You can also find it in the Caribbean Sea as well. 

19. There are so many flying fish in Barbados that the country is nicknamed “The land of the Flying Fish.” The official national fish of Barbados is the flying fish. Also, they appear on coins.

20. The flying fish is attracted to light.  Many fishermen capture flying fish by shining a light into the water and capturing them with a net. The flying fish soar so high that sailors find them on their decks.

21. Some countries like Japan, Vietnam, China, Indonesia, Taiwan and India eat the flying fish. In Japan they eat the flying fish eggs (roe) in sushi. It is called tobiko. Flying fish is part of the national dish in Barbados. They called it coucou.

22. Flying fish have even been known to land on the decks of ships!

23. In some parts of the world fishermen scoop flying fish right out of the air with nets. Sea birds also sometimes scoop flying fish out of the air.
