Leopardus pardalis1. Ocelots live in Central and and every country south of the U.S. except Chile.
2. The ocelot, a larger member of the small cat group, is a beautiful spotted cat with short hair.
3. Ocelots have short close fur marked with both solid and open dark spots that sometimes run in lines along .The tale is ringed with black or has black bars on the upper surface.
4. An ocelot is like a mini leopard.
5. They range from mangrove forests to Savannah grasslands and pastures.
6. They also live in thorn scrubs and tropical forests. All of these habitats provide only live dense vegetative cover. There is habitat destruction for agriculture. People are cutting down their habitat for farmland.
7. The ocelot is generally nocturnal, and during the day it can be seen sleeping among vegetation on the branch of a tree or in a tree hollow.
8. Ocelots are carnivores. They eat meat in other words. Some smaller animals that they eat are rodents, rabbits, young deer, birds, snakes, and fish. Their prey is being killed so the Ocelots may not be getting as fulfilling meals as they are used to getting.
9. Excellent hearing and vision help the ocelot to catch its prey of small mammals, lizards, snakes, and birds.Ocelots hunt at night with there pack mewing to each other as they circle in on there pray. They can kill larger pray such as an agouti.
10. The Ocelot is much larger than its cousins the Margay and the Oncilla, although they bear a striking resemblance.

15. Most ocelots have 2 basic prey catching strategies: the “Hunting Walk,” where the cat moves, espies (catches sight of) prey, stops, stalks and then pounces and; the “Sit and Wait,” where the ocelot may sit for 30 minutes or more than an hour waiting for prey to appear.
16. In low light conditions, the ocelot’s eyesight is 6 times better than man’s.
17. The ocelot is the only small cat that sleeps lying down with its forepaws outstretched in front with its head resting on them like a dog.
