Dodo Bird - The First Animal Known To Man To become Extinct
The Dodo (Raphus cucullatus) is an extinct flightless bird that was endemic to the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. With the extinction of the dodo came the end of the Calvaria tree because it relied on the dodo to spread its seeds. When the dodo ate the fruit from the tree, it couldn't digest it and would poop it out (Think of a bad burrito experience). This is how the seeds were spread. No dodo droppings - no Calvaria tree. The Dodo is extinct since 1680.

"Dodo" comes from the Dutch words "Dodars" or "Oodoor" which means stupid fool.

The Dodo was a bird. It's feathers were gray. It's belly was white, It had a large hooked bill that was gray and yellow at the tip. If had large yellow feet and black claws.

The Dodo was a strange slow bird. It was large and heavy. If weighed as much as 50 pounds. The Dodo could not fly. Scientists believed that it could fly at one time, It lived very peacefully with a lot of food and with no predators so if did not need to fly. As time went on it lost its ability to fly. The Dodo was discovered by the sailors that came to the island .

The Dodos were killed and eaten for their meat by the sailors that stopped on the island. The animals that the sailors brought to the island, such as cats, rats and pigs destroyed their nests and eggs.  Humans destroyed the forests where the Dodos lived.

It was first spotted around the year 1600 and it was extinct less than 80 years later. The Dodo was the first animal known to man to become extinct.
