Parsley Facts

Parsley is scientifically known as Petroselinum Crispum and is part of the umbelliferae family, whose other members include oregano, cumin and bay leaves. The two types of parsley widely known are curled and Italian. Curled parsley has crinkled and tightly curled leaves, and is the most widely used. Italian parsley has flat leaves that are deeply cut, resembling celery, the flavour is stronger than curled parsley. Both kinds are believed to be native to Sardinia. Curled parsley is frequently used as a garnish as the leaves are quite decorative. All parts of the plant, roots, stems, leaves and seeds are useful and beneficial.
