1. The Border Collie is a well balanced, medium-sized dog of athletic appearance, displaying style and agility in equal measure with soundness and strength. Its hard, muscular body conveys the impression of effortless movement and endless endurance. 

2. The Border Collie is extremely intelligent, with its keen, alert expression being a very important characteristic of the breed. 

3 .The Border Collie has extraordinary instinct and an uncanny ability to reason. One of its greatest assets is the ability to work out of sight of its master without commands.

4. Border Collies are quite versatile and well known to excel in many performance activities. They are intelligent, agile, happy workers - quick to learn and eager to please. They live to work and with guidance from their trainer will usually master any task requested.

5. These working attributes are directly due to hundreds of years of breeding dogs specifically to work with shepherds in managing flocks of sheep in Great Britain and are central to what defines this versatile breed.

6. Border Collies originally come from the border area between Scotland and England. They are an old breed dating back to the 1500s and have always been used to help herd sheep and farm animals.

7. Border Collies have long skinny snouts.

8. Its eyes are usually shades of brown.

9. Border Collies have floppy, short ears.

11. Border Collies can run 100 miles per day.

12. The first sheepdog trials with Border Collies were held in Wales on October 9, 1873.

13. Border Collies have lots of different names- Working Collies, Old-Fashioned Collies, Farm Collies, English Collies and ‘sheepdogs’. 

14. The name Border Collie was first used in 1915.

15. Border Collies have lots of energy and love to work - they can run for many miles in a day. 

16. The Border Collie controls sheep with “eye” - this is the amount of concentration on the sheep that the dog shows. The sheep are “held” by the strength of the dog’s eye.

17. The Border Collie is one of the smartest dogs in the world. 
18. Border Collies can have fur almost any color like brown, white, black. 

19. Border Collies are used for more than just herding; they also are good searching and tracking dogs too. 

20. More recently they have been frequently used to control geese at airports, golf courses, corporation lawns etc.

  1. The method of grading dog breeds according to their intelligence is a complex process. One might think that a dog is only intelligent as the willingness of his owners to put time and effort in training him, but there are certain inherent qualities in some breeds.
