Comman names:  glutton, carcajou, skunk bear, or quickhatch,

1. The name Wolverine means glutton.

2. The Wolverine has a broad head, small eyes and short rounded ears. The wolverines have glossy dark brown fur, a light face mask and a stripe running down both sides of its body. It is powerfully built and has short legs with wide feet for traveling across the snow.

3. When a Wolverine is fully grown it is about 3 to 4 feet long. A Wolverine usually weighs about 30 to 40 pounds but could weigh 70 pounds. A Wolverine is usually brown but the color may vary depending on the environment. A Wolverine has two pale strips down its’ back.

4. A new born Wolverine is called a kitten.

5. The Wolverine has the muscle to defend its food from wolf packs, cougars, and grizzly bears.

6. The Wolverine can climb trees and swim very well.

7. The Wolverine is also known to run great distances without a rest.

8. The Wolverine uses its great sense of smell to hunt its prey.

9. Wolverines only breed once a year. The Wolverine lives in the Artic mainland of Russia, Alaska, Canada, and Greenland. 

10. The Wolverine will eat whatever it needs to eat but it usually eats carrion (dead animals). 

11. The Wolverine is so vicious that even bears flee when they hear the snarl of a Wolverine.

12. The Wolverine is only ever at two speeds, fast and stopped. The Wolverine runs at full speed to catch its prey and stay on top of the snow.

13. The Wolverine has large feet that act as snow shoes so it can run on snow.

14. The Wolverine will ambush an animal or find a slower one.

15. A Wolverine will spray its’ food with musk, bury the carrion (dead animal), and eat it later if it doesn’t eat it earlier. 

16. Musk is an unpleasant smelling fluid that it can spray using its’ anal glands.

17. The Wolverine has bad eye sight but uses its’ great sense of smell to hunt at night.

18. Musk smells almost as bad as the spray of a skunk. The Wolverine will use musk to mark its’ territory.

19. The Wolverines’ territory is always large but sometimes as large as 200 sq. miles. 

20. The skunk is the Wolverines’ cousin and they are both part of the Weasel family.

21. Wolverines are the largest species of the Weasel family.

22. Despite its’ name the Wolverine is not related to the wolf in any way and the Wolverine is clever like a wolf but not as resourceful as a wolf. 

23. Wolverines’ are very shy and like most Weasels they are scarcely seen.

24. Wolverines have a truly balanced diet, they eat what is most resourceful. Wolverines will eat the most common food during each season. Wolverines will eat insects, bird eggs, fruits, nuts and berries in season, and carrion. Wolverines can kill anything as big as a moose or a deer.

25. The Wolverine is so vicious that the Native Americans called it “the evil one”. 

26. The Wolverine is one of the worlds fiercest animals on Earth.

27. The Wolverine has bone crushing teeth and sharp claws to attack animals as big as moose, more than ten times its size.
28. The Wolverine has deadly teeth, the long, sharp canines in front rip open the victim and the interior teeth chomp down and shatter the bone making it a brutal kill or a very slow death and if it gets away the 

29. Wolverine has a great sense of smell and can track down the injured animal or listen for the cry of the animal because they have great hearing as well.

30. People barely ever see Wolverines because they don’t live near humans. 

31. Wolverines will live about 200 sq. miles or more away from humans. Males live farther away than females do, male live about 100 sq. miles farther than the females do. 

32. The Wolverines prefer the silence and undisturbance from mankind. As temperatures rise on Earth from global warming the population has decreased.

33. The Wolverine needs a lot of space to roam. They have been known to journey 24 kilometers, or 15 miles, a day looking for food. 

34. Some animals have been tracked over the snow for 60-80 kilometers. 

35. Similar to other weasels, the Wolverine by nature is curious, daring, and tough.

36. Wolverines have chased animals for 60-80 kilometers (about 37-49 miles).

37. Female Wolverines usually give birth to 2-3 kittens at a time, once a year.
